Quick Horticultural Tips for Common Leafy Problems in Singapore

As plant growers, we understand the pain and frustration whenever our plants are not growing well or show signs of deformity. No worries, because we are about to address some of the common foliage problems in Singapore. These problems are definitely treatable and you don't have to throw your plant away.
1. In order to identify whether your plant has a problem, compare the defective part with the overall appearance of the plant. Is the defect exhibiting behaviours that resemble the natural characteristics of the plant?
Yellow Leaves

Possible Causes: Lack of nutrients or water, overwatering, compacted roots or root damage. (Do note that some plants has naturally yellow leaves and they are gorgeous too.)
Recommendations: Prune off yellow leaves, apply fertilizers, increase / decrease frequency & amount of watering, soil loosening.
Brown & Dried Tips

Possible Causes: Overfertilizing, lack of water, too much sunlight
Recommendations: Prune off the brown tips, increase frequency & amount of watering, remove excess fertilizers.
Leaf Holes

Possible Causes: Pests infestations.
Recommendations: Prune off the damaged leaves.
Leaf Spots

Possible Causes: Fungal or bacterial infection, lack of nutrients.
Recommendations: Prune off the affected leaf, apply fertilizers.
Leaf Curl

Possible Causes: Over watering.
Recommendations: Reduce frequency & amount of watering.
Most of these problems can be alleviated by pruning with a pair of secateurs. Don't worry about your plant being bare after pruning because it enables the regeneration of new leaves.
